Suryakala Foundation for Performing Arts

Suryakala Foundation is a non-profit foundation for the promotion of Indian Classical Dance and Music. This foundation is the brain child of Divya Devaguptapu, Dr. Kanakam Devaguptapu and Seshagiri Rao Devaguptapu. The foundation aims to ideate, curate and present classical dance & music with continued relevance to today’s audiences without tampering with the structure or diluting classicism.

Varna Varnanam

A publication of Suryakala Foundation, varn̤a varn̤anam is an exposition of 26 varn̤ams, which includes tāna, pada/cauka and daru varn̤ams in Telugu, Tamil̤, Samskr̤tam, Mal̤ayāl̤am and Kannad̤a, taken from the composition corpus of 17th century till date. The book aims at bringing to light lesser known compositions of yesteryears with an attempt to enable deeper understanding and appreciation of varn̤ams.

Varna Varnanam Release

The book launch function was held on February 19that the Music Academy Mini Hall, Chennai in the presence of rasikas and friends of art. The book was released by Smt. Shanta and Sri V P Dhananjayan and the first copies were received by Bharatanatyam artiste and scholar Ms. Lakshmi Vishwanathan and Carnatic Musician Dr. S Sowmya.
